This policy explains what personal information Habitual Homes Learn collects, why, who we share it with and what choices you have. The platform is run by Habitual Home Decor Inc., operating as Habitual Homes, 850 Danforth Rd, Scarborough, ON M1K 1H5, Canada. We follow Canada's privacy law (PIPEDA) and Canada's anti-spam law (CASL).
Who to contact
Privacy Officer, Habitual Homes, info@habitualhomes.ca
What we collect
When you create an account:
- your first name and email address;
- your password, which is stored encrypted, so no one (including us) can read it;
- where you are in your project and the decision that worries you most (if you choose "Other", the text you write);
- your country and province or state;
- if you live in Ontario and choose to give it, the first 3 characters of your postal code;
- whether you agreed to receive our emails, with the date, time and exact wording you agreed to and, if you unsubscribe, the date you did. We keep a history of these changes as proof of consent.
When you use the platform:
- which videos you marked as completed, and when;
- which courses or downloads you have access to, until when, and how the access was given (for example, a purchase);
- the dates your account was created, confirmed and last used;
- technical and security records, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visited, kept by our service providers for a short time.
We do not collect your full address, your phone number or your payment card details. When we start selling courses, payments will be handled by Stripe, and your card details will go directly to Stripe.
How we use it
- To create and run your account, and to give you access to free content and to what you buy.
- To save your progress and show it to you.
- To greet you by name and understand our members, so we can choose which videos and guides to make next.
- To answer your questions and requests.
- To send account emails, such as confirming your email address or resetting your password.
- To send you news, renovation tips and offers, only if you agreed to receive them.
- To keep the platform secure, prevent misuse and meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
Your consent
By creating an account, you agree that we use your information as described in this policy. Marketing emails are separate: we only send them if you checked the box at sign-up or later in My account. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Emails and how to unsubscribe
Every marketing email includes a link to unsubscribe. You can also email info@habitualhomes.ca and ask to be removed, or uncheck the box in My account at any time. Account emails, such as password resets, are part of the service and are sent even if you don't receive marketing emails.
Cookies
We only use cookies that the platform needs to work:
- a login cookie that keeps you signed in;
- a short-term cookie (24 hours) that remembers which video you wanted to watch, so we can take you back to it after you confirm your email.
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies. Our video player (Vimeo) is set to "Do Not Track".
Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers to run the platform. They only receive what they need to provide their service:
- Supabase: accounts and database. Data is stored in Canada.
- Vercel: hosting of the website. May process data in the United States.
- Vimeo: video hosting and playback. United States.
- Resend: delivery of our emails. United States.
- Stripe (when we start selling courses): payment processing. United States and Canada.
Because some of these providers are outside Canada, your information may be stored or processed in other countries and may be accessed by their authorities under their laws.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our members or the platform.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except records we must keep by law, such as purchase records for tax purposes and proof of your email consent.
How we protect it
We use service providers with strong security, encrypted connections, encrypted passwords and access rules, so each member can only see their own information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach puts you at real risk, as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal information we have about you;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your account and your personal information;
- stop sending you marketing emails.
Email info@habitualhomes.ca from the email address on your account. We will answer within 30 days. You can also correct your information, change your email address and stop marketing emails directly from My account.
Age
The platform is for adults. You must be at least the age of majority in your province or state to create an account.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If the changes are important, we will tell you by email or on the platform.
Complaints
If you are not happy with how we handled your information, please contact our Privacy Officer first. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
